Of the bearings with outer ring, this bearing type is a bearing with the smallest section height which enables space-saving and cost-saving. Usually design is so made as to use a shaft as the direct raceway surface without using inner ring. The outer ring of this bearing type is of such a construction that the needle rollers and the cage are not separated from one another, so that the bearing is only press-fitted in a rigid housing with proper fit torque. Thus, this bearing type needs no snap ring, etc. to fix itself in axial direction and, in addition, is easy to handle.

Drawn cup needle roller bearings are typically used in applications where the housing bore cannot be used as a raceway for a needle roller and cage assembly, but where a very compact and economical bearing arrangement is required. Owing to their large number of rollers, the bearings have a high load carrying capacity and stiffness.
