SICK Pneumatic Sensor MPA Series

A pneumatic cylinder position sensor at a glance. Measurement range: 107 → 1,007 mm. Sensor type: Analog output (for current or voltage), switching output, and IO-Link options are available. Adapters can be attached to various cylinder types (tie rod cylinders, round body cylinders, profile cylinders). Your advantages: Easy installation as there are no position elements or additional mechanical components. Required for coupling with the piston rod. The sensor is mounted on an external cylinder, so it can be integrated into the machine at any time. Sensor settings and parameters can be easily adjusted when operating with a teach pad or IO-Link. More flexible than conventional cylinder sensors, allowing you to define multiple switching points with minimal space. Robust aluminum housing and non-contact structure provide maximum reliability. Measurement principle: Data transfer via IO-Link supports advanced diagnostic options. MPA position sensors continuously detect the piston position of pneumatic actuators in a direct, non-contact manner. Sensors in the MPA product family are ideal for large piston diameters and long strokes. Sensor settings can be adjusted during installation and operation using a teach field, or later using IO-Link depending on the type. Because this sensor continuously provides data via analog output or IO-Link, it enables flexible machine concepts and can solve tasks in areas such as quality monitoring and process control in combination with pneumatic cylinders and drives. Continuous transfer of position data improves the functionality of pneumatic cylinders, making them more intelligent and versatile. Applications include: detecting the position of dancers; monitoring the position of product pushers; monitoring cylinder end position and press stroke; monitoring the position of sonotrodes using MPA; monitoring the position and wear of grinding heads; automatic removal from part carriers; quality control using laser lines; and monitoring the end position of press cylinders.
