This generally means that the overall length of the drill bit itself is very long relative to its diameter.
For example, mechanical drill bits have very short flute lengths, which means that their overall length is also significantly shorter.
What is HSS? HSS (short for High Speed Steel) is a standard steel for drill bits due to its excellent heat resistance when operating at high speeds.
A typical drill can spin at up to 500-700 rpm, which creates a significant amount of heat buildup due to friction.
This is undesirable when working with wood or plastic.
