Quartz glass has absorption due to water (OH group) at wavelengths of 1.4?m, 2.2?m, and 2.7?m. Anhydrous synthetic quartz has eliminated water absorption in the infrared range by using a special manufacturing method that does not bond water molecules to glass molecules. It can be used as a window in the infrared range from visible to 3?m.
