The DNPH (2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine) active gas tube syringe type is a sampler that uses a pump to suck up aldehydes and ketones, such as formaldehyde, in the air and can determine the concentration of each substance in the environment.
The system works by immobilizing aldehydes and ketones in the air by bringing them into contact with silica gel impregnated with DNPH inside a polyethylene tube. These are then extracted with acetonitrile and analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
