This is the first camera to use a combination of a lead screw type STM and a position detection sensor. The focus lens is not reset when the power is turned on, shortening startup time. The focus lens is lighter and has a shorter movement stroke, achieving high-speed AF when shooting still images and videos.

The design takes advantage of the RF mount's unique features to achieve a significantly smaller and lighter lens. Compared to the EF11-24mm f/4L USM, the lens is roughly half the weight and its overall length has been reduced from approximately 132mm to approximately 112mm, providing excellent portability. The lens also features a dust- and weather-resistant construction on the mount, control ring, and focus ring. Other features include a fluorine coating on the front of the lens for easy maintenance, a special SWC coating to prevent reflections, and ASC to suppress flare and ghosting, ensuring high durability and reliability.
