- Unique expression that makes use of strong perspective and bokeh The combination of a 20mm angle of view and a large F1.4 aperture, which captures a vast world beyond the visual range of the naked eye, adds a rich bokeh element to the ultra-wide angle, enabling visual expression that dynamically brings out the subject.
Taking advantage of the brightness of a large aperture and prime lens, you can record low-sensitivity, low-noise images of night scenes and dark places. Even with slow shutter speeds, you can capture sharp images of your subject.
By appropriately positioning two aspherical lenses, sagittal coma flare is reduced, achieving high point image reproduction at the periphery of the image, allowing illuminations and starry skies to be depicted sharply all the way to the periphery of the image.

The rear focus system uses a VCM (voice coil motor) that provides high thrust to drive the focus lens group. This actuator is capable of driving the heavy focus lens group at high speed and with high precision, achieving both high image quality and agile AF.

This product employs a rear focus system driven by a VCM, and the combination of Dual Pixel Intelligent AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II enables quiet operation during video recording, smoothly tracking subject movement and touch focus operations, enabling high-quality video recording. It also achieves high-speed, high-precision AF for still images.
Control algorithm optimized for servo AF and continuous shooting: The VCM, which powerfully drives the large-diameter, heavy-mass lens group, is controlled by a high-performance microprocessor, and by matching it with the AF algorithm on the camera body, it accommodates changes in shooting styles, such as high-speed continuous shooting with an electronic shutter and regular use of servo AF with subject detection. Combined with the high-speed AF speed, this makes AF even more comfortable, with "quick capture," "continuous capture," and "stable tracking." On cameras that support electronic full-time manual focus, MF is always possible with both one-shot AF and servo AF.
- Enables stable video composition with very little focus breathing. The optical design takes video performance into consideration and suppresses the occurrence of breathing, which is a change in the angle of view caused by focus movement. Therefore, even when combined with a camera body that does not have an electronic focus breathing compensation function, video can be shot with extremely stable composition. With cameras that support focus breathing compensation, stability is even more pronounced when focus breathing compensation is turned on.
[Standardized exterior design]
It shares the same exterior design as the RF24mm F1.4 L VCM, RF35mm F1.4 L VCM, and RF50mm F1.4 L VCM, resulting in a lightweight and compact design. Its 67mm diameter front filter can be used interchangeably, and there's less adjustment required when switching lenses during gimbal-based video shooting, making it easy to use on set. It also features an iris ring that allows manual aperture control during video shooting, sharing the same controls as the RF35mm F1.4 L VCM. Smooth aperture control without a click is possible, and the rotation direction is aligned with the Cinema EOS System's cinema lenses, ensuring seamless operation even on set. Furthermore, button and switch functions can be customized to suit the user's workflow. A rear filter holder can be attached to the mount, allowing for two front and rear filters for creative expression.
* A weak magnetic field is generated from the electromagnetically driven components built into the VCM. If you are using an implanted cardiac pacemaker or other medical device and experience any abnormalities, move away from this product and consult a doctor.
*When the lens is not attached to the camera, or when the camera is attached and the power switch is turned off, shaking the lens may cause the internal lens elements to move, which may result in noise, but this is not a malfunction. Even if the internal lens elements move due to vibrations, such as when carrying the lens, this will not affect performance.
*The iris ring operation when combined with a camera body is subject to different restrictions depending on the compatible model and still image/video shooting mode.
