Extra-heavy-duty boltless metal shelving units generally are sturdier and can hold heavier items than shelving units with lower duty levels. Also known as die shelving, they are used for storing dies, fixtures, jigs, and other heavy equipment. These shelving units have solid steel decking that provides a smooth, solid surface that items cannot fall through. It is more resistant to damage than particleboard decking and will not splinter. The decking installs over the shelving units' beams to distribute the weight of items placed on the decking across the beams.
