IGBT is a transistor component that stands for Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors. This device has a high speed of switching and is widely used for current welding machines to assist in voltage regulation. The IGBT is a semiconductor device that combines the current-carrying capabilities of a bipolar transistor, with the convenience of a MOSFET.

IGBT and MOSFET Working Principle

The IGBT is basically a MOSFET device that controls a bipolar power transistor with both transistors integrated on a single piece of silicon. MOSFETs generally work by varying the width of the electrode channel with the pressure on the electrode, called a gate, located between the gate and channel, and insulated with a thin layer of silicon oxide.
