If voltage is applied in this state, leakage current may flow between the prongs of the plug along the surface of the outlet, causing minute spark discharge. As a result, the surface deteriorates, carbonization conductive paths (tracks) are formed, and dielectric breakdown occurs. This phenomenon is called tracking. As a result, flames may suddenly appear between the plug and the outlet, which could result in a fire accident.
